Farm Girls at Heart
Hattie and Sarah grew up on a farm in Little Compton, Rhode Island. Their summers consisted of working for their parents who had separate roles on the farm, their Dad focused on growing over 250+ acres of produce for wholesale customers such as Stop + Shop while their mom focused on the retail side of the business. The retail farm stand is where they spent most of their time, helping to provide fresh flowers and produce to the local community. They spent the majority of their time helping their mom to grow flowers, arrange, plant, sell, etc for the farm stand. However, they would occasionally get the early wake up call to help pack corn at 5am to help fulfill the Stop + Shop, Shaws, or Sid Wainer orders. The girls credit the knowledge for plants and flowers to their parents, "we would not be where we are today if it weren't for either of our parents, especially our mom, the ultimate flower lady, she taught us everything she knows about flowers, and she continues to help, now she is one of our main suppliers!"
While finishing her last year at Boston University, she and Hattie started their floral design business. After graduation she worked for a year as a licensing coordinator at '47 while continuing to grow the business nights, mornings, and weekends. The business soon required more of her time so she decided to leave her 9-5 job. Now she focuses on the business side of Young Designs from supplier/client relations to marketing, while still getting her hands on the flowers and helping Hattie create beautiful designs.
Graduated from UNH in 2014. She worked for several florists throughout Boston and as a designer for a premiere landscaping company in Westwood. While working as a designer for other companies, she helped Sarah start their floral design business. Hattie leads the floral design aspect of the business from events to seasonal decor.
